YORKSHIRE have confirmed that the signing of Ryan Sidebottom will be the last before the start of the 2011 season.

That statement may seem premature, with the new campaign not beginning for another six months, but the Tykes insist that they are happy with the current team following the capture of the former England fast bowler.

“We will not be adding any more players to the squad,”

said director of cricket Martyn Moxon.

“It has been our policy to give our own youngsters a chance at Yorkshire and that will continue. I am confident it will be fine.”

The decision means that the Tykes will not be replacing prolific batsmen Jacques Rudolph, who has left to return to South Africa, with youngsters such as Gary Ballance and Joe Root instead expected to be given the chance to prove themselves in the first-team.

“People need to be challenged to get the best out of themselves,” added Moxon.

“It is no good to have people playing second XI cricket for too long. I am confident that the likes of Gary and Joe can step-up to the firstteam.”

Yorkshire’s confidence in their youngsters seems to be well placed.

They where in a similar position 12 months ago, when Matthew Hoggard and Deon Kruis left, before the likes of Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Steven Patterson performed so admirably during 2010.

“We are obviously a big player down with Jacques leaving,” continued Moxon.

“This is not a financial decision to go with youth though, despite the fact that funds have been tight which has been well documented.”
