AFTER two years of frustration, Barry Conlon is relishing his return to Darlington, where he hopes to rediscover the goalscoring reputation, which earned the striker a move to Barnsley in 2004.
Conlon's goals for Quakers attracted a host of admirers, before the 27-year-old opted for a move to Oakwell on a two-year-deal.
But Conlon's stay in South Yorkshire has been interrupted by various injury setbacks and he was restricted to just 30 starts for the Tykes.
Conlon's contract at Oakwell expires at the end of this week, days after the forward agreed to join Quakers on a one-year deal.
His last start for Barnsley came in September and he spent a month on loan at Rotherham last season.
"It is frustrating because when I left Darlington I had a lot of options, and Barnsley seemed like the best one for me to take," he said.
"There's nothing you can do about injury, and I can't blame my time at Barnsley on anyone, but I'd like to get myself back to the position I was in two years ago.
"I've enjoyed my time at Barnsley but I'd be lying if I said it had worked out as I intended."
Conlon netted 42 goals in three seasons at Darlington and now the Irishman hopes to continue where he left off back in the North-East.
He added: "I just want to get myself back to the way I was two years ago - scoring goals and playing regularly. That's my job."
Adrian Webster, released by Darlington last month, will start for New Zealand in Tallinn against Estonia tonight, aiming to impress before the All Whites provide friendly opposition for Brazil on Sunday in Switzerland.
Sunday's match is being broadcast live on ITV4, kick-off 7.30pm.
Former Quakers goalkeeper Michael Price and ex-youth team defender Chris Mason have been released by Nationwide North club Harrogate Town.
Darlington Supporters Club are holding a World Cup Quiz in the Corner Bar on Sunday, June 11. Starting at 4pm, entrance is £1, there will be cash prizes and all are welcome.
