The Surridge Sport Durham Coast League: Seaham Park have been stunned this week by suggestions that last Saturday's fixture with Peterlee should have been called off because of inclement weather.

The game was one of only two to be played and victory propelled Seaham to the top of the table - but they are annoyed that their efforts to stage the game should have come in for criticism.

"A lot of people, including players, worked very hard last Saturday morning to make the ground playable and it was passed fit by the umpires," said secretary Billy Giblin.

"Had they said the game couldn't go ahead, that would have been it, but it was their decision to play."

The Park today visit Silksworth, who are experiencing drainage difficulties with part of their outfield.

Earlier in the week they asked League chairman Roy Simpson for his view on a possible postponement but he ruled the game should go ahead.

Silksworth are unchanged while Seaham Park make one alteration, with Andrew Docherty replacing David Moorhead.

Murton, nine points off the top, have named the same side for the visit from Bill Quay, who have dropped to sixth after leading the table in the first couple of weeks.

Champions Castle Eden are pleased to have Allan Unsworth back in their line-up and he takes over from Peter Spellman at home to Boldon CA, who name Michael Towns for Chris Frater.

Peterlee, who were all out for only 21 in the Tom Burn Cup tie at Philadelphia on Wednesday, will be hoping for an easier time of it in the local derby with Easington.

Dale Butler leads the team while Easington show two changes with Paul Neasham and Dane Wilson coming in for Russell Tarn and Lawrence Jones.

Surprisingly, Ryhope are second from bottom, one of only two sides yet to taste success. They have home advantage over Washington, who will miss professional Matthew Jane and Mark Nelson.

Houghton, who have lost the three games they have played, could again find the going difficult at Dawdon, never an easy side to beat.
