CARDIFF boss Dave Jones has played down rumours of a bust-up with chairman Peter Ridsdale.

According to widespread reports, the pair were embroiled in a row in the visitors’ dressing room at Preston after the Bluebirds’ disappointing display in a 3-0 defeat.

Jones admits there was a falling out, though he claims he and Ridsdale have not even had clear-the-air talks because ‘‘there’s no air to clear’’.

‘‘My relationship with the chairman is fine,’’ Jones told the club’s official website.

‘‘I am allowed to vent my frustration somewhere along the line, and it seems to be headline news, but it’s not.

‘‘Are we at loggerheads? We can be at loggerheads or not at loggerheads all in the same day. It was nothing more than a disagreement.’’ ■ Preston have taken up a one-year option on goalkeeper Wayne Henderson’s contract for next season and have added a further option for another year.

Henderson is now fully recovered from the back injury which kept him out for over a year and has been in the squad for every game this season.

Manager Darren Ferguson said: ‘‘Wayne was coming to the end of his contract, so we had to look at it.

‘‘He’s done well in training and hopefully we have seen the end of his injuries with his back. He’s pushing Andy Lonergan all the way.”

■ Norwich have confirmed the loan signing of Preston’s former Sunderland striker Stephen Elliott until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international has fallen down the pecking order at Deepdale since the arrival of Danny Welbeck on loan from Manchester United.

Boss Paul Lambert said: ‘‘I just feel it’s vital we bring in somebody to boost the other lads, to keep them on their toes.

“He’s different from what we’ve got. He’ll chase lost causes and he’ll do great for us, I think.’’
