STARBURST endured an unlucky run at Kempton on her most recent outing but she can atone for that disappointment at Wolverhampton.

Andrew Balding’s charge was sent off as joint favourite that day but after needing a blindfold to load, the headgear was removed a touch too late so she was tardily away from the stalls.

The five-year-old did not really enjoy an ideal trip after that but she still fared well enough under top weight to finish third.

Previously a Wolverhampton maiden winner, Starburst remains on a mark of 65 for the Betdaq The Betting Exchange Fillies’ Handicap and she might still have a little up her sleeve.

Riviera Chic is probably not quite good enough to win in maiden company so the change in level for the Back & Lay At Betdaq Handicap can play in her favour.

Making her handicap bow here, Ralph Beckett’s charge has yet to win in three starts but came agonisingly close when beaten just a head at this venue in mid-January.

She did not do much wrong that day but falls short of the required level and should find this task a little easier.

Flow Chart also looks one of the more likely sorts on show at Dunstall Park.

David Barron’s three-year-old has been in good nick this winter and was only narrowly touched off at Southwell last time.

He has plenty of pace to handle the slight drop in the trip for the Great Offers At wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk Claiming Stakes.

Straight Face can regain the winning thread in the Bet CIS Football – Betdaq Handicap.

David Evans’ charge struck gold at this track ten days ago, putting up a strong performance under Jean-Pierre Guillambert to win by four lengths.

However, dropped to apprentice company last time, Straight Face looked in need of stronger handling when touched off by a neck at Lingfield.

Reunited with Guillambert this time, Straight Face can shrug off a career-high mark and take the honours.

■ British Horseracing Authority officials have moved quickly to save two of the high-profile races from Saturday’s abandoned card at Doncaster.

The Grade Two skypoker.com Lightning Novices’ Chase and the Grade Two skyvegas.com Mares’ Hurdle will now be run at Doncaster’s next meeting on February 6.

Clerk of the course David Williams confirmed: ‘‘I understand the BHA have saved the Lightning Novices’ Chase and the mares‘ race and I believe we will now have an eight-race card next Saturday.’’

■ Kawagino earned his annual jaunt to the Cheltenham Festival with a gutsy success at Plumpton.

The evergreen ten-year-old will be making his fifth successive appearance at jumping’s premier meeting after having too many guns for Youngstown in the Friendly And Personal Service At Star Sports Novices’ Handicap Chase.

There was nothing between the pair at the second-last, but a superior leap at the final fence for Philip Hide sealed victory and the 4-1 chance got home by seven lengths.

The Pertemps Hurdle Final on March 18 is the target for the Seamus Mullins-trained gelding, who actually ran twice at the 2007 Festival - with his best effort being fifth in that year’s Champion Hurdle.

‘‘What a servant he’s been to his owners,” said Mullins.
