SVEN-GORAN Eriksson admits Notts County’s ambitious Premier League project is ‘‘on hold’’ following the club’s change of ownership – but insists he remains committed to the Meadow Lane cause.
Eriksson was appointed director of football last summer by new owners Munto Finance, but they have now left the club and County are seeking fresh investment to boost their move through the leagues.
On the day County’s FA Cup third round tie with Forest Green Rovers fell victim to the weather, Eriksson said: ‘‘It’s on hold at the moment unfortunately.
‘‘But hopefully in just a couple of weeks it’ll take off again. That’s our hope. I still believe it is possible but what we need is money. It’s not easy if you want to reach the Premier League from where we are.’’ Eriksson’s future was in doubt following a difficult start at the club with the signing of former England defender Sol Campbell, who then left after playing just one match.
There were also doubts over the identity of the club’s new backers and reports linking Eriksson with the national manager’s post with North Korea and Sweden.
But Eriksson added: ‘‘It’s been too many bad things at Notts County during this six months but hopefully in a couple of weeks’ time things will change. I could have taken Sweden if I wanted, but I was in this job so I said no to it.
‘‘The challenge to take a club from 19th place in League Two into the Premier League is one of the biggest things you can do in football. Of course I miss Lazio and football at that level, but life goes on.”
