A MONTH ago Coxhoe Athletic looked down and out. Their first nine matches failed to yield a point but they’ve hit form and taken 10 points from the last four matches.

A 4-3 victory at Cleator Moor Celtic was their best performance so far. The visitors were coasting to victory when they went three up through Chris Corbett (2) and Peter Bulmer. But just as Coxhoe had scored three times in 18 minutes, Cleator did even better, finding the net on three occasions during a frenetic 10 minutes spell before the interval.

Chris Thornton bagged a brace and Craig Scott levelled.

Five goals came in the opening 35 minutes but only one followed and it was Coxhoe who clinched victory through Kevin Mulgrew.

Willington remain at the basement despite giving Kirkbymoorside a good game at Hall Lane. Daryl Rivis and Paul Round (pen) sent the visitors in at the interval with a comfortable cushion but when Rhys Crowe conceded an own goal, an exciting last seven minutes ensued but Kirkbymoorside held on.

Hartlepool stay second from bottom following a 3-1 defeat at Houghton Town. Carl Mc- Dermott was a fifth-minute marksman for Pools before Billy Harrison (2) and Kevin Gordon led the home victory.

Guisborough Town HC lost by an only goal to Annfield Plain’s Aaron Robertson and are in the bottom three.

Life is much rosier for leaders Ryhope CW who inflicted a first defeat of the season on third-top Teesside Athletic.

Greg Booth buried a good shot into the bottom corner of the net to give the Teessiders the advantage and after Chris Trewick placed a rebound into goal, Shaun Petch headed in the winner midway through the second period.

Scarborough Town hammered Silksworth 7-2 as the goals flowed from the returning Luke Jenkinson with a hat-trick, James Greening (2), Neil Waterfield and Joe Danby. Scott Walker and Andrew Place scored consolation goals for the Wearsiders.

Wolviston are fourth and they maintained their excellent form defeating Jarrow 3- 1 courtesy of Danny Shields (2) and Scott Mehan. Christie Elliott had equalised for the visitors.

New Marske hit Ashbrooke Belford House for six. Shaun Erskine recorded a hat-trick, Shaun Mackin netted twice and his brother Michael converted a penalty. Ashbrooke managed three goals themselves from Kenny Taylor and Ryan Steel (2).
