WHILE Pool">Hartlepool United this morning sit comfortably in League One, Chris Turner insists there is plenty of room for improvement and no-one will be thinking Pools have cracked it.

Scarred after back to back seasons of relative struggle, Pools this morning sit tenth in League One.

Saturday’s win over Tranmere Rovers at Victoria Park was Pools second win in a row – their first successive victories since October last year.

“No-one will be getting carried away,’’ insisted Chris Turner. “We need to cement ourselves in the top half and then in the second half of the season see where we can go.

“I’m confident the team will get better and stronger as the season goes on and that might take us towards something.

“It’s about, for me, having better season than last season, and getting up the table.

I’m not going to sit here and say we will get in the play-offs because I don’t think we have the . . . not so much strength in depth, but more of not having the right materials to confidently predict the play-offs.

“We have a squad that might get us there further down the line, but we would like to build on the squad in the future, next summer or as the season goes by. We still lack one or two things, but this squad of players might get us there, you never know.’’ He added: “We are tenth now and we are getting a reputation of becoming a difficult League One team to beat, both home and away.

“We have had a soft underbelly away from home in the last few years, we have played well but not picked up points.

Now I think teams have seen us away from home and realised we can play football away from home and win and be hard to break down. I think we are getting our reputation back.’’ Victory was only Pools’ second at home this season, but their fifth in League One.

I think we are getting that reputation back.’’ James Brown hobbled off on Saturday after taking a knock, but Turner said the forward will train this morning.

Pools will meet either Kettering or Redditch United at Victoria Park in the first round of the FA Cup. The sides drew 1-1 on Saturday with Blue Square Premier Kettering, managed by ex- Pools midfielder Mark Cooper, levelling in the sixth miunute of added on time against the team bottom of Blue Square North.
