CHELTENHAM officials are to take their time over the best way to commemorate triple Ladbrokes World Hurdle winner Inglis Drever.

The home of National Hunt racing paid tribute to the champion stayer – who was put down on Friday following a serious bout of colic – by screening his third Festival triumph at their meeting on Saturday.

The executive at Prestbury Park are keen to honour the popular 10-year-old, who was owned by Graham Wylie and trained in County Durham by Howard Johnson.

‘‘There will be no news until we’ve had a chance to assimilate what we might be able to do,’’ said managing director Edward Gillespie.

‘‘Nothing will happen in the next two or three weeks.’’ Meanwhile, Tidal Bay and Nacarat head a host of star names entered for Saturday’s totetentofollow Old Roan Chase at Aintree.

Johnson’s Tidal Bay remains a top-class performer when on his best behaviour, although he failed to win in five starts last season after a pipe-opener at Carlisle.

Crook-based trainer Johnson is delighted with former Arkle winner Tidal Bay, who has had an operation to help his breathing.

He said: ‘‘We are looking forward to getting him on the racecourse. We had him hobdayed through the summer and we are hoping that has tidied him up. I would say at the minute that he will probably be our standard bearer this year.

‘‘He jumped a few fences indoors this morning and looked good.

“He’ll school outdoors if it keeps drizzling like it is now and he will have a piece of work with Denis O’Regan up, probably tomorrow.

“If I’m happy and the ground is alright, we’ll go to Aintree.

‘‘He is training well and we’ll weigh him on Wednesday.

He actually looks like he’s carrying a lot more condition this year, which is good because he always looks gorky.’’
