YORKSHIRE have signed onetime Australian one-day international all-rounder Ryan Harris as their overseas player for 2010.

Harris, an opening bowler, has scored five 50s with a best of 94 in his ten-year first-class career. The 30 year-old is currently contracted to the Queensland Bulls, but has had brief spells with Sussex and Surrey, the most recent being in June.

He is also contracted to the Deccan Chargers in the IPL, which is due to finish on April 25.

Recommended to Martyn Moxon by Darren Lehmann and former England bowling coach Troy Cooley, Harris said: “When I got the call asking me if I wanted to go and play in Yorkshire I jumped at the chance.

“When I was playing with Darren Lehmann he would come back to Adelaide and always talk about Yorkshire. He really enjoyed his time there.

It’s good to be going to what sounds like a very passionate club.”

Harris made his one limited overs appearance against South Africa at Hobart in January, taking one wicket, but a foot injury towards the back end of the 2008/9 Australian season hamstrung his chances of further honours.

“I’ve had a couple of injuries at the wrong times, but I still feel I’m good enough to get into the Australian side,”

he continued.

“If I come over to Yorkshire and perform well I can put my name up in front of the selectors.”

He finished last season with 33 wickets for the Bulls, just failing to top the Sheffield Shield bowling charts.

“Ryan comes highly recommended by a number of people in Australia for his allround abilities,” said Moxon.

“He is an opening bowler who is also useful with the bat and an outstanding fielder.’’
