CHRIS Turner yesterday solved his goalkeeping problem by signing Scott Flinders.

Released by Crystal Palace at the end of the season, the 23-year-old is Pools fifth signing of the summer.

Pools released both goalkeepers at the end of last season and, while a deal for former Victoria Park favourite Dimi Konstantopoulos failed to materialise, Turner has recruited Flinders as his No 1.

A former England Under-20 international, he started his career at Barnsley alongside fellow new recruit Neil Austin.

He spent time on loan at Falkirk last season before being freed by Palace boss Neil Warnock.

“It’s been a long summer since I left Palace, but I’ve had interest and glad to be signing here,’’ he told the club’s official website. “It’s a big step for me to move on in my career.

“The manager used to be a goalkeeper himself which can only help and it’s a chance to move back up north.

“I’ve been impressed by the club, I had a look around last week and I’m excited by the plans for the season and years ahead.

“I played with Neil Austin at Barnsley, I know him quite well. There’s a lot of new faces here.

“It’s going to be a tough league, but we have something to work with now. I’m looking forward to the new season .

“It’s going to be a tight league. More and more clubs are dropping down to his level – Man City did it a few years ago and it’s getting harder and harder.’’ Pools Carling Cup tie at Coventry has been put back 24 hours to Wednesday, August 12.

And two League One fixtures have been brought forward 24 hours, with England playing on the Saturday.

The Victoria Park game with Brentford now kicks-off at 7.45pm on October 9, with the trip to Oldham changed to September 4.

■ Matty Robson, the left winger who rejected the chance to stay at Victoria Park this summer, is set to sign for Carlisle United.

“I’m working my socks off to try to get Matt into the club and we’ve made him a terrific offer to try and secure that,’’ revealed boss Greg Abbot.

“Obviously we think he's a good player but we are not in a position to talk about him because he isn’t ours yet.

“He is a player in a position we need – a left-sider who can get crosses in, who has got pace and lots of energy.

“I’ve spent most of my holidays speaking to Matty and his agent trying to fix it up.

There is a complication but I’m working like mad to try and resolve that".
