NEWCASTLE UNITED have confirmed a pre-season friendly with Scottish Premier League side Dundee United.

The Magpies will be the guests when Dundee United kick off their centenary season celebrations at Tannadice Park on Sunday, August 2 (kick-off 3pm).

Newcastle have already confirmed pre-season dates at Darlington (July 18) and Huddersfield (July 21), as well as a home friendly against Leeds United (July 29).

The centenary game against the Terrors will not be the first time that the two clubs have locked horns.

Joe Harvey's Newcastle side began the defence of their Fairs Cup crown at Tannadice in September 1969.

A double from Welsh forward Wyn Davies secured a 2-1 success north of the border before Keith Dyson netted the only goal in the return leg at St.James' Park.

And the two sides met again in the Texaco Cup in the 1973-74 season. Dundee United enjoyed a 2-0 victory in their back yard before goals from Keith Robson, John Tudor, Malcolm Macdonald and Tommy Cassidy saw Newcastle run out 4-1 winners on Tyneside.
