NEWCASTLE UNITED revealed a reduction of season ticket prices yesterday, but there was still no concrete development on either the managerial or ownership front.

The Singapore-based Profitable Group confirmed that they have “expressed an initial interest in acquiring” the club. Concerns, however, remain within St James’ Park.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley wants to cut his losses and receive £100m from any group showing an interest in his stake, with Keith Harris, the man afforded the role of finding a buyer, claiming there are four “serious” contenders.

With such uncertainty surrounding St James’ Park it would seem improbable that supporters will take advantage of cheaper season tickets, reduced by an average of nine per cent following relegation to the Championship.

“At a time when money is tight for supporters, football clubs have to recognise the sacrifices people make to continue following their team and offer any assistance they can in making games affordable to watch,” said managing director Derek Llambias.

“We have decided to reduce the majority of prices back to 2007-08 levels to help fans because we appreciate the big commitment they make in buying their season tickets every year.”

It remains to be seen just what sort of drop in numbers relegation will bring to season ticket sales, although the ownership issue is likely to have an even greater impact.

Ashley remains reluctant to appoint Alan Shearer – which would spark a sudden rush in sales – because he feels that potential owners would prefer to make the decision themselves.

While the future of the club remains in limbo, there continues to be a drive from Ashley to sell most of the club’s players.

Every player is up for sale and Everton are interested in signing Alan Smith.

Football agents First Artists have been enlisted to sell as many as they can of the existing players.

Managers at home and abroad have been told that all first team players could be available at the right price, with Newcastle particularly intent on moving on Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Jonas Gutierrez, Geremi, Jose Enrique, Fabricio Coloccini, Obafemi Martins and Xisco.
