MARTYN MOXON will shuffle his bowling pack for today’s County Championship match against Somerset at Headingley.

Yorkshire’s director of professional cricket is mindful that this LV Division One fixture is the second of three in 14 days for the White Rose, and he does not want to be dealing with anymore injuries.

He is already having to cope with the near certain loss of former England captain Michael Vaughan due to a recurrence of an old knee injury.

It means that Matthew Hoggard is in contention to return to the side after missing the thrilling draw against Sussex earlier this week through illness, while Moxon could not confirm whether or not Azeem Rafiq will keep his place after a stunning debut.

“I said at the start of the season that we will need to rotate our bowling line up, and I think we will do it for Somerset,” said Moxon, whose side have now drawn all four of their four-day fixtures so far.

“We will have to do it because of how quickly the games are coming. We may have to make a couple of changes. Nobody will be left out because of performance.

It will be because of conditions, and we need to be mindful of what is coming up.

“We have another Championship game after Somerset, then four very important Twenty20 games.”

Rafiq, 18, returned match figures of 5-89 from 27 overs against Sussex, and has given Moxon a selection headache if he is contemplating going into the match with just one spinner.

“Azeem Rafiq has had a really encouraging debut, so he has also given himself a chance of playing,” continued Moxon. “We need to keep them (bowlers) as fresh as possible. Hoggy was probably going to play this game before he got ill, so he will certainly be in contention.”

In terms of a replacement for Vaughan, Moxon will scour the second team. It means the likes of Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow are in the reckoning.
