FLIPANDO can roll back the years by clocking up another victory in the totesuper7 Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar.
David Barron’s eight-year-old landed this valuable handicap in 2007, and arrives at the Cleveland venue just 1lb higher.
Despite his advancing years - he is the oldest contender in this line-up - Flipando has shown this term he is as sharp as ever.
Having pocketed the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton in March, the son of Sri Pekan then ran a stormer to finish third in the big one at Doncaster.
With the winner that day, Expresso Star, since finishing third in the Huxley Stakes, this year’s Lincoln was probably well above average.
Adding to the positive vibes, Barron’s rugged campaigner has since performed laudably in the Suffolk Stakes at Newmarket and in Listed company at York.
On both occasions he encountered a rather fractious journey, while at the same time giving every indication a step up in trip would be long overdue.
As illustrated two years ago, 10 furlongs at Redcar is ideal, while the fast conditions are also a huge plus.
Although the Zetland is always fiercely competitive, Flipando is an ultra-confident selection - especially given his cunning trainer’s hot run of form.
Fine racing is on offer at Goodwood, where Made To Ransom makes plenty of appeal in the feature race of the day.
The Listed Festival Stakes has in recent years thrown up some good winners, with Sixties Icon doing the honours 12 months ago.
Made To Ransom may have it all to prove on official ratings, but it was hard not to have been impressed by his game triumph at Chepstow earlier this month. That five-length romp served notice of his staying credentials, while at the same time polarising his raw ability. John Gosden does particularly well in furnishing these unexposed types, and looks to have another decent tool on his hands in the shape of this four-year-old.
