GRAHAM Onions should be fit for the start of Durham’s Twenty20 Cup campaign, but Liam Plunkett is likely to miss the first few games with a groin injury.

Onions emerged from the second Test against the West Indies with a sore Achilles, but has responded well to treatment and is expected to be available for selection at Trent Bridge on Monday.

Plunkett bowled only six overs in Wednesday’s final Friends Provident Trophy tie against Gloucestershire and left the field towards the end of the innings.

“His groin isn’t torn but it might need ten days’ rest,”

said physio Nigel Kent. “Travelling 2,500 miles in two and half weeks hasn’t helped any of the players.”

Michael Di Venuto (groin) and Steve Harmison (shin), who missed the last three FPT games, are expected to be fit for Monday, if required.

Both have started running and will be put through their paces when Durham start their Twenty20 training today.

The one long-term casualty, Mark Davies, is progressing well after his ankle operation and should be fit to play within three weeks.

Durham’s match against Nottinghamshire will start at 2.30, while the home game against Derbyshire on Tuesday will have a 6pm start.

Australian David Warner, who is expected to arrive in time for Durham’s third Twenty20 match at home to Leicestershire next Friday, made 15 off nine balls as Delhi Daredevils made sure of a semi-final place in the Indian Premier League.

Needing 166 to beat Mumbai Indians, Delhi won by six wickets with 2.3 overs to spare and will face Deccan Chargers in tonight’s first semi-final at Centurion. The final is on Sunday.
