ANTHONY McGrath wants to concentrate on making sure Yorkshire win their first County Championship game against Warwickshire at Edgbaston today rather than worry about the hype surrounding Michael Vaughan and Ian Bell.
The White Rose skipper realises there will be plenty of attention on the meeting between the two potential Ashes No 3s.
But for McGrath, while he desperately hopes Vaughan comes out on top, it is all about halting a run of two draws in the best possible way.
“The press will always label it as Ian Bell v Michael Vaughan because both could be playing in the Ashes, but I think the clubs will be looking at it as a chance to get their first win of the season,” said the 33 yearold.
McGrath welcomes back wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy from a bruised hand, despite the impressive haul of four dismissals for Simon Guy in the Friends Provident Trophy defeat against Surrey on Monday.
Pakistani bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan is almost certain to make his first Championship appearance, but it is the return of Adil Rashid that could be the most crucial.
“I think the game there (at Edgbaston between Warwickshire and Hampshire) was a highscoring affair,” continued McGrath. “The wicket at Edgbaston is normally flat, so it is going to be hard work.”
Yorkshire will arrive at Edgbaston a wounded animal after two successive Friends Provident Trophy defeats over the weekend.
This will be Yorkshire’s last Championship fixture until June 6 because of the conclusion of the Friends Provident Trophy group stages and the start of the Twenty20 Cup.
