CHAMPIONS Durham were frustrated by rain and Somerset duo Marcus Trescothick and James Hildreth as they sought their first win of the LV County Championship season.
Durham began the day in complete control of the match with Somerset following on and still needing 391 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
However, only 24 overs were possible on a rain-shortened third day at Taunton with overnight pair Trescothick and Hildreth remaining unbeaten to guide Somerset to 178 for one when the umpires abandoned play at 5.15pm.
Trescothick advanced his score from 32 to 90, while Hildreth was more sedate in adding 30 to his overnight 22 and build hope Somerset could yet save the game.
The rain, and Worcestershire skipper Vikram Solanki, also thwarted Yorkshire on the third day of their match at Headingley.
There were eight interruptions for either rain or bad light before play finally ended with eight overs remaining and the Pears on 100 for two.
Solanki completed his fourth consecutive Championship half century to finish unbeaten on 66 alongside Moeen Ali (15).
Earlier Yorkshire had declared their innings closed at 460 for six after opener Jacques Rudolph was denied his second double century for the county.
The South African fell for 198 after Steve Davies superbly stumped him down leg side off the bowling of medium pacer Daryl Mitchell, who finished with four wickets.
