TONY Jeffries knows his second professional bout to be considerably tougher than his first – but the Sunderland fighter is expecting the outcome to be the same at Crowtree Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

Jeffries made a blistering start to his professional career when he took just twoand- a-half minutes to dispose of Belarussian Aliksander Vayavoda in February.

The Olympic bronze medallist will return to the ring against Roy Meissner this weekend, with the durable German super-middleweight likely to offer more resistance than his first opponent.

But while a first-round stoppage is less likely in three days time, Jeffries is confident of extending his unbeaten record in front of a partisan Wearside crowd.

“I wouldn’t be complaining if I did exactly the same again,” said the former Sunderland ABC fighter. “But I know I’m not going to win all of my fights in the first round.

“I’ve seen a bit of Roy Meissner in action, and although he’s only won two of his 11 fights, he’s been fighting at cruiserweight so he’ll be one of the biggest blokes I’ve ever fought.

“That brings its own problems, and I think Frank (Maloney, promoter) has probably chosen this opponent because he wants me to spend a bit more time in the ring.

“But I’ll be going in there with all guns blazing and Meissner will know he’s in a fight from the first bell to the last.”

Jeffries’ preparations for Saturday’s fight were interrupted earlier this month when he split from his previous trainer Joe Gallagher.

For the last two-and-a-half weeks, the 24-year-old has been working under another Mancunian, Bobby Rimmer.
