DUNBRODY Millar sidestepped a run at Sandown last week in favour of Sedgefield’s Boddingtons Durham National and that decision can pay dividends tonight.

The 11-year-old has not shown too much of late but has fallen right down the ratings and looked to be coming back to form when third last time.

He will relish the fast ground and can exploit his mark of 107.

Grand National-winning trainer Denys Smith will be on hand at Sedgefield to present a new trophy to the winning connections of the Boddingtons Durham National.

Smith saddled Red Alligator to take the prestigious prize back in 1967, a year before the horse went on to taste success in the biggest race of them all – the Grand National at Aintree.

As the previous Durham National trophy is damaged beyond repair, Smith, a long-time supporter of Sedgefield, has stepped in to donate a trophy he won at Bishop Auckland Show many years ago.

A rattling five furlongs at Bath ought to be just up Speed Song’s street and she cab bag the feature EBF Lansdown Fillies’ Stakes.

The William Haggas-trained fouryear- old is a daughter of the stable’s crack sprinter, Superstar Leo, and is still unexposed, having had just the six career starts. She has won two of those, and did it impressive at Sandown in July last year, where a confident Ryan Moore clearly knew what he had under him.

Held up after being slowly away, the Fasliyev filly showed a smart turn of foot once unleashed for her run, soon putting matters to bed. The form did amount to much, and she was beaten next time out, but the dreaded bounce factor may have come into play as she was turning out again quickly having been off the track a fair while before that win.

If conditions stay quick Speed Song can prove the class act, with the Haggas stable currently in good nick.

It is likely a decent effort will be required from something in the Brownhill Insurance Group Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Lingfield to lower the colours of Clive Brittain’s Fantastical.

This one very much caught the eye when fourth on debut here last month. She missed the break before running green and looking for all the world like the experience would bring her on a bundle. Her stablemate Azharia is worth monitoring on the same card. Although still a maiden after three starts, she has shown some ability and is likely to do better now she is handicapped. To that end, Jamie Spencer looks a notable booking for her in the Evelyn & George Evans 50th Wedding Anniversary Fillies’ Handicap.

Apache Ridge rates the best bet on Nottingham’s evening card, on which he runs in the Racing UK £12.99 per month Maiden Stakes.
