LOUTH handler Steve Gollings secured a 16-1 Market Rasen double courtesy of Viscount Rossini and Springfield Raki – both ridden by rising star Rhys Flint.

Flint successfully teamed up with Viscount Rossini for a second time in the 17th May Is Countryside Day Handicap Hurdle.

The jockey, who struck gold aboard Gollings’ seven-year-old at Newcastle in March, sent the 11-2 chance into the lead approaching the penultimate flight.

Soon firmly in command, he stayed on well in the closing stages to pass the post with nine lengths to spare over Approved Force.

Gollings said: ‘‘I thought Viscount Rossini’s run when he won at Newcastle last time was his best, but I think he has stepped up on that.

‘‘His jumping was atrocious when we got him, but he has got his confidence now and he is progressive - Rhys gets on well with him.’’ Gollings and Flint were soon back in the winner’s enclosure when Springfield Raki (13-8 favourite) justified stable confidence in the Racing UK Focused On Racing Novices’ Hurdle.

‘‘He would have won here last time but he was brought down two out - he took a terrible fall and it was a horrible experience for a young horse,’’ added the local handler.

‘‘He seemed to have got his confidence back at home, but you never quite know until they come to the racecourse again.’’ Racing UK presenter Nick Luck could hardly believe his eyes as he watched Luccombe Bay, owned and bred by his mother, Margaret, come out best in the appropriately- named Racing UK UK’s Best Racecourses Live Novices’ Chase.

Luck said of John Quinn’s nineyear- old: ‘‘That is a massive surprise, I did not think she could beat the top two (Wind Instrument and Calusa Caldera).

‘‘She must be one of the most genuine horses in training to have come back after a series of serious injuries.

‘‘John has only had her for 18 months and she has won three of her seven races for him - that shows what an incredible trainer he is.’’ Tarabaloo, second on her last three starts, gained a well-deserved success under Sam Jones in the Racing UK On Channel 432 Handicap Chase.
