PAUL VEAZEY is relishing the prospect of contesting round one of the Spanish Supersport Championship this weekend.

Veazey has completed five successful days of testing for the Barcelona-based Joe Darcey team and heads into the first of seven rounds in the CEV Buckler Spanish Championship looking to get his career back on track.

"It's been a long time coming but as soon as I tested the Joe Darcey Honda for the first time I knew this was exactly what I needed," said Veazey ahead of the race at the Albacete. "The CBR600RR Honda I have for 2009 is easily the best machine I've ever ridden."

Middlesbrough rider Veazey continued: "I have to be realistic about what is achievable in Albacete this week, but I'm heading into the opening round armed with a great team and a great machine.

"I've still a lot to learn about the Spanish Championship and I'm setting myself targets which I believe are tough in this level of competition but also reflect what I've been able to achieve in pre season testing."

The 22-year-old has already returned to one circuit where he had previous experience, Valencia, and recorded a lap more than three seconds faster than when he was last there on a privately-entered Supersport machine last year.

Veazey continued: "If that Valencia test is anything to go by then I've got an exciting season to look forward to, but in my team-mate, Kev Coghlan, I've also got a target and a good gauge. He finished runner-up in the Championship last year and will help me progress during 2009."

The Spanish Championship takes in seven races between now and November and over four circuits; Albacete (two rounds) then the Grand Prix circuits of Jerez (two rounds), Catalunya and Valencia (two rounds).
