REDCAR Racecourse marked a new era with its highest Easter Monday crowd for six years.
A total of 6,000 people - plus children - visited the Tees Valley racecourse for what is traditionally the start of its racing season. The family enclosure was especially popular.
For new general manager Amy Fair, it was a flying start.
"Aside from a few minor teething problems, it was a fantastic day for the racecourse. The feedback from our visitors has been most encouraging," she said.
"We have particularly been pushing how racing offers real value for money - at Redcar our prices start from £5 for adults and, of course, accompanied children under 16 are always admitted free of charge."
The racing included the launch of the season-long £100,000 Boddingtons Straight Mile Championship Series.
