DURHAM City stayed three points clear at the top of the UniBond League first division thanks to a second half fightback against Clitheroe.
“I don’t care how we win, as long as we pick up three points,” said manager Lee Collings after his side came from a goal down to win 3-1. “It was a very good second half performance, after we had a conversation in the dressing room at half time.
“There’s still plenty of work to be done – we’ve got six cup finals left, four at home and two away, and there’ll be a few more twists and turns.”
Clitheroe took the lead when Durham keeper Craig Turns spilled a long range shot and Ryan Fisher scored from a few yards, but City were much better after half-time. They missed four chances before Gavin Cogdon was brought down, and Keith Graydon scored from the spot. They went ahead on 65 minutes when Steve Richardson lobbed the keeper and in the last minute Mattie Moffat outpaced two defenders and fired the third.
Newcastle Blue Star stayed in touch with the play-off places by beating Warrington 3-1 at Kingston Park. Paul Brayson put them into the lead, and after Warrington equalised with a penalty, Jonathan Webb and Alex Benjamin scored in the second half.
In the Blue Square North, Gateshead lost 4-1 at Stafford Rangers, and Blyth lost 1-0 at home to Vauxhall Motors.
