JASON Plato made a fantastic return to the British Touring Car Championship after taking the win in the third race at Brands Hatch yesterday after officials penalised Jonathan Adam.
Adam was adjudged to have unfairly knocked Plato out of the lead as their cars entered Paddock Hill Bend a couple of laps into the race.
The incident enabled Adam to take over the lead and he went on to cross the line 3.845s clear of North-East raised Plato.
But after looking at the evidence, BTCC officials concluded the move was unfair and added four seconds to Adam’s time – relegating him to second.
The victory was Plato's 47th of an illustrious career, but the first in the BTCC for Chevrolet since 1975.
Plato is now fourth in the standings with 22 points, while Adam has dropped to fifth.
Matt Neal leads the way on 38 points, with Colin Turkington second on 32 and Rob Collard on 29.
Harry Vaulkhard, the North-East's other competitor, has five points and is sitting in 12th place.
A full report on Vaulkhard's weekend will appear later in the week
