SHEFFIELD Wednesday boss Brian Laws has moved swiftly to cover the loss of injured defender Richard Hinds after signing Middlesbrough right-back Tony McMahon on an initial one-month loan deal.
Hinds suffered a broken leg in Saturdays 4-1 defeat at Wolves in the Coca-Cola Championship, leaving Wednesday desperately short of defensive options.
The capture of McMahon ends the club's search for a replacement, and the 22-year-old will be eligible to make his debut against Preston on Saturday, subject to the necessary paperwork being completed.
Laws said: "Tony is a player that ticks all the right boxes. He's played in Middlesbrough's first team and is very highly valued by Gareth Southgate.
"Tony has also played in Europe, he's got a great CV and I'm delighted to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday."
McMahon has featured in 25 games for Middlesbrough, and had a brief loan spell at Championship side Blackpool last season.
