MATTY YOUNG is eyeing a senior debut with Sunderland after signing a new long-term contract with the club.
Young, who is currently on loan with League Two side Salford City, has agreed an extension that sees him commit himself to the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2028.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper joined the Black Cats at the age of seven and after progressing through the Academy of Light ranks, he made his first appearance at senior level in the summer of 2023 in a pre-season friendly against New Mexico United.
The teenager spent three months on loan at Darlington last campaign, featuring on 14 occasions and keeping five clean sheets in National League North.
Young has lined up on five occasions for Salford this term, and also made his England Under-20 debut earlier this month.
He said: “Signing this deal until 2028 means so much to me because I love this club. I have been here for more than a decade and I am delighted to extend my stay.

“Last year, I had my first experience of travelling and training with the first team, which was a huge milestone. Since then, I’ve gained valuable experience on loan at Darlington and now at Salford City.
“My focus is on continuing to work hard, and I hope that one day I’ll get my chance to play for Sunderland.”
Sunderland sporting director, Kristjaan Speakman, added: “We’re pleased with Matty’s progress at present and thrilled that he has extended his contract through to 2028.
“His recent England Under-20 debut at 17 years of age provides a nice reference point of where he is currently and through continued hard work and dedication, he can go on to achieve much more.”
