SUNDERLAND’S youngsters turned on the style as they beat National League side Tamworth 5-1 in the National League Cup.

Trey Ogunsuyi was the star of the show, with the Belgian 17-year-old scoring twice as he maintained his excellent start to the season.

Tommy Lavery, Jaydon Jones and Ben Crompton were also on target for Graeme Murty’s side as they dominated throughout against a Tamworth side who are currently 15th in the Conference table.

Ogunsuyi opened the scoring in the second minute as he deflected Jenson Jones’ shot into the net.

Lavery doubled Sunderland’s lead just 13 minutes in as he slotted home from the heart of the penalty area.

Tamworth pulled a goal back shortly before half-time, exploiting an error from Black Cats goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze, but Sunderland’s youngsters continued to dominate in the second half.

Ogunsuyi scored his second goal three minutes into the second half, converting the rebound after a shot from Jewison Bennette was parried into his path.

Substitute Jaydon Jones added a fourth goal within a couple of minutes of leaving the bench, with Crompton completing the scoring with six minutes left as he rounded off a slick passing move by side-footing home from close range.
