DARLINGTON ignored the uncertainty about Farsley’s future to see off their crisis-hit opponents 2-0 at Silverlands.

Quakers took full advantage of Farsley’s ongoing misfortunes in front of a sparse crowd of around 130, many of whom were from the North-East.

Farsley only named 13 players, with an outbreak of food poisoning supposedly forcing some players to miss the game, but they didn’t seem to have as many supporters as players when the game kicked off.

Nevertheless, Quakers didn’t allow the pre-match speculation to affect them, and they controlled nearly all the game to win for the first time at Silverlands, the home of Buxton where Farsley are ground-sharing 70 miles away from their actual home base.

Darlington assistant manager, Terry Mitchell. said: “We’re absolutely delighted with our first away win of the season. Home or away, we go to win. We won 2-0, got a clean sheet and three points, so we can’t be happier.

“We were comfortable in the first half. We controlled the game and created some good chances. We definitely deserved to go 1-0 up.

“The second goal finished the game off. We controlled the game in the second half, although we nearly gave them a leg up after we scored.

“I thought there were some good individual performances. Will McGowan controlled the game from midfield. He dropped a little bit deeper, played some good passes and was always a threat.”

Quakers controlled most of the first half, and had several opportunities to take the lead.

In the opening minute, Caden Kelly saw a looping right-foot shot go just over the bar, then Andrew Nelson forced Farsley keeper Tom Wooster into a low save from ten yards out.

Kelly, who looked useful on the left, curled a free-kick onto the roof of the net, then Cedric Main had a close-range header blocked from Nelson’s left-wing cross.

Farsley briefly threatened with a right-foot volley by Danny Greenfield which Peter Jameson pushed around the post, but Quakers soon created another chance when Kallum Griffiths crossed for Main to head wide.

The breakthrough finally came in first-half stoppage time when Main nodded a miscued clearance down for Jack Maskell, on for the injured Andrew Nelson, to square for Ali Alshabeeb to sweep past the keeper for his first goal for the club.

Quakers started the second half in the same manner, and they nearly scored a second when Scott Barrow chipped the ball into the area for Main to head on, but Wooster pulled off a good one-handed save.

Maskell crossed for Toby Lees to head straight at Wooster, before Quakers lost their grip slightly and nearly let Farsley back into the game.

Danny Greenfield forced Jameson into a full-length save with a 25-yarder, and from the corner that followed, Manesse Mampala hit the post.

Quakers took full advantage and made the game safe at the other end when the industrious McGowan crossed from the right, Wooster completely missed the ball, and Elliot Forbes turned it home for his second of the season.

Quakers nearly made it three, but Maskell headed just over the bar from a corner, and sub Cameron Salkeld fired straight at Wooster.

Quakers return to action when they host Chester at Blackwell Meadows on Tuesday.
