CONFIDENT Tommy Conway has fired a warning to Middlesbrough's Championship promotion rivals, claiming Michael Carrick's side are starting to "click," despite the disappointment of throwing away two points at Norwich City on Sunday.

Conway has vowed to quickly put the frustration of his weekend penalty miss behind him and believes Boro proved at Carrow Road that they're getting "better and better".

The 22-year-old admitted his saved spot-kick was a crucial turning point in Sunday's game, with Boro missing the opportunity to go 4-1 up, sparking a late comeback from the hosts to snatch an unlikely point.

But the summer signing insists he won't let the disappointment play on his mind and will instead focus on the positives of his first half brace and Boro's fine display.

Conway was initially used as a No.10 by Michael Carrick after arriving from Bristol City but has been given the nod over Emmanuel Latte Lath as the central striker in the last two games, and, despite his penalty miss, justified that call with a fine display and two goals at Norwich.

Conway says the battle for the starting berth up-front will benefit Boro and believes he's now finding his flow on Teesside.

“As a footballer, you want a run of games so that you can show what you can do," said the Scotland international.

"If it’s a bit stop-start then it’s harder to do that. When you get into a rhythm of playing, especially now that I’m playing on the last line, you can see the rewards that I’m getting.

"Hopefully I can build on that. But between me and Manu, whoever is playing, we know we will get chances and we will score goals. We now just need to start winning games. I do think we’ll be okay."

Boro looked set to pick up their second successive win on Sunday before the dramatic late show from the home side.

“If I put that in the back of the net it’s game over," said Conway of his penalty, which was saved by George Long.

"That gives them a little boost and they’re able to go down the other end with a bit of confidence knowing they’re still in the game. 3-1 can be a dangerous scoreline and the next goal can be crucial, which it was.

"We let them back in, and it shouldn’t have been that way. It should have been dead and buried. We’ll learn from it and make sure this never happens again."

Conway scored a penalty for Boro against Portsmouth earlier this season and won't think twice about stepping up to take one again.

He told BBC Tees: "I’ll reflect on this one and see what didn’t go so well, and what I can improve on.

"If I can make little changes here and there so that next time I have a chance from the spot it’s a different outcome then I will do."

Despite the dropped points at Norwich, the latest in a string of missed opportunities, Conway thinks Boro are on the right track.

“In the first half, from the minute we fell behind, we scored three goals and I think it’s some of the best stuff we’ve played all season," he said.

"We’re getting better and better and, especially in that final third, it’s starting to click for us. We now have to try and keep the ball out of the net as well, to give ourselves the best possible chance to win more games. It’s still early in the season though, so we’ll be fine.

“I’ve felt welcomed by the supporters since I got here. To score two goals and get to celebrate in front of them, honestly, as a footballer, there’s no better feeling. Hopefully there is many more to come."
