Here's how Sunderland players rated in the win at Luton:

7 Patterson: Distribution poor but made up for it with some crucial and excellent saves. Commanded box well.

7 Hume: Did incredibly well to avoid a yellow card that would have resulted in a suspension, particularly after warning that followed early foul. Dealt superbly with Chong and Doughty.

9 Mepham: Immense again. Relished the physical challenge and stood tall.

8 O’Nien: Alongside Mepham, won the battle against Morris and Adebayo. Excellent defensive display.

7 Cirkin: Most of Luton’s best work came down the left but Cirkin still stuck to his task and defended well throughout.

7 Neil: Wasn’t given any time to breathe in midfield but tireless and disciplined.

6 Browne: Struggled to get a grip in the first half but improved after the break.

6 Bellingham: Went close with first half shot. Did a lot of ugly midfield work.

7 Rigg: Showed his maturity to adapt to different role on testing night and came up with a moment of real quality to break deadlock.

8 Mundle: Threatened early on and was always a danger on the counter for Sunderland in first half. Moment of individual brilliance won the game.

6 Isidor: Thankless task up-front but stuck at it.
