GROUP 1 winning rider Luke Morris has a well-established reputation as the hardest-working jockey in Britain and he could be a man to follow at Redcar on Friday.

Morris got just reward for his evergreen endeavours when winning the 2022 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Alpinista for veteran Newmarket trainer Sir Mark Prescott.

The charismatic trainer has one runner at Redcar – outsider Hobgoblin – but Morris has picked up some eye-catching rides for northern trainers, notably Ruth Carr’s Redcar specialist Copper and Five.

The eight-year-old gelding loves Redcar’s straight mile and was in the front rank some way out when winning on soft ground at the track in May. He drops back to seven furlongs for the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap (Division 2) and is on a mark 3lbs lower than his last win.

The going will be testing again on Friday and that will suit another of Morris’s outside rides, John Kirkup, for David Thompson, in the Celebrate The Life of Christine Dixon Handicap.

The ground was heavy when the nine-year-old mudlark won at the same meeting a year ago and, although there’s another year on the clock, his mark is now seven pounds lower.

Redcar’s eight-race card gets underway at 1.22pm with the Watch Live On Racing TV EBF Novice Stakes for two-year-olds and the market should be watched for signs of confidence.

AMO Racing have been in the headlines of late due to spectacular spending at the sales and they have an interesting newcomer in Bad Habits. A 78,000 guineas yearling, the Zodiac colt is ridden by Jason Watson and trained at Newmarket by George Boughey.

Michael Dods’ Taygar has run two good races in defeat at Redcar lately and comes back for another go in the Sam Hall Memorial Handicap, commemorating one of Redcar’s most successful trainers.

Both times, he was nearest at the finish after unstraightforward passages, and Dods has decided to stick to five furlongs in preference to an entry in the previous race over six. Ridden by a change of partner in Lewis Edmunds, he could run well with luck in running.

The Lost Canvas, trained by David O’Meara, was collared on the line on his second start at Hamilton last month, and the Elwick Stud runner can gain compensation in the Market Cross Jewellers British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes under David Nolan.

Tim Easterby’s Temper Trap was a comfortable winner at Leicester last time out, having been second three times in a row. He seeks to defy a 4lbs penalty in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap (Div One) with the ever reliable David Allan in the saddle.

The powerful Roger Varian yard sends up one runner from Newmarket in the form of Times Edition in the Join Racing TV Now Novice Stakes. The daughter of Kingman has been knocking on the door and, having got her head in front at Pontefract last time, lost the race in the stewards’ room. This could be her chance, with Jack Mitchell riding.

Star Start, trained by Ruth Carr, is in good form, having won at Ripon in August before finishing third at York last month. Both were amateur riders’ races, with Charli Parker in the plate, and she teams up with the gelding again in the concluding Watch Racing Replays At racingtv.com Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap.
