How did the players fare in Newcastle United's goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park?

EVERTON (4-2-3-1):

PICKFORD 7; Garner 7, Tarkowski 6, Keane 7, Young 6; Mangala 5 (Gueye 56, 5), Doucoure 6; Harrison 5 (Iroegbunam 68, 5), McNeil 5, Ndiaye 6; Calvert-Lewin 5.

Subs (not used): Virginia (gk), Begovic (gk), O’Brien, Lindstrom, Armstrong, Dixon, Beto.

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):

7 Pope: Had a relatively quiet night, but made a crucial second-half save from Calvert-Lewin to keep scoresheet blank

7 Trippier: Did a good job shackling the dangerous Ndiaye before a muscular problem forced him off

7 Schar: Kept Calvert-Lewin quiet pretty much all night and produced two or three of his trademark crossfield balls

7 BURN: Everton played into his hands by pumping balls forward, but he still did well to win pretty much all of them

6 Hall: Displayed plenty of energy, but his passing was extremely wasteful for much of the night

5 Tonali: Almost scored with a flicked shot that was cleared off the line, but was wasteful in possession on a number of occasions

6 Guimaraes: Tried to keep Newcastle on the front foot, but was another player whose passing was mixed

6 Joelinton: Made some driving runs at the Everton defence, but his final ball tended to be disappointing

6 Murphy: Couldn’t really shake off the attention of the Everton defence – came close with a shot that flew just over

6 Gordon: Was Newcastle’s brightest player for the first hour or so, but his night will be remembered for the penalty miss

5 Barnes: Worked hard, but didn’t do enough to threaten the Everton goal before he was withdrawn just after the hour mark

Subs:

6 Almiron (for Barnes, 62): Added some energy late on and came close with a shot that was deflected wide

5 Willock (for Murphy, 68): Wasn’t really able to influence things from his position on the left

Livramento (for Trippier, 71)

Longstaff (for Tonali, 71)

(not used): Vlachodimos (gk), Ruddy (gk), Krafth, Kelly, Osula.

Man Of The Match: DAN BURN – The centre-half was a major factor in Newcastle keeping a clean sheet.
