How did the players fare in Middlesbrough’s 1-0 win at West Brom?

WEST BROM (4-2-3-1):

Palmer 6; Furlong 5, Ajayi 5, Bartley 6, Heggem 5 (Styles 78); Racic 5 (Molumby 63, 4), MOWATT 6; Wallace 6 (Fellows 53, 4), Swift 5 (Johnston 63, 5), Grant 4 (Dobbin 78); Maja 5.

Subs: Wildsmith (gk), Holgate, Diakite, Cole.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1):

6 Dieng: Didn’t have a lot to do, but commanded his penalty area effectively in the closing stages

6 Ayling: Had a good night defensively, but was uncharacteristically sloppy in possession on occasion

8 Van den Berg: Slotted seamlessly back into the starting line-up – a commanding central-defensive display

7 Edmundson: Helped keep the dangerous Maja quiet with an impressive performance – already looks an excellent acquisition

6 Borges: Did well to restrict Albion’s threat down their right-hand side and tried to get forward when possible

8 Morris: Was a major factor in Boro dominating the midfield battle – covered a lot of ground in the central area

8 HACKNEY: Used the ball effectively all evening and produced an excellent finish to settle things

7 Doak: Had flashes of attacking threat down the right and came close to scoring with a second-half shot that was saved

7 Azaz: Linked play between midfield and attack all night and produced some nice touches in and around the 18-yard box

7 McGree: Saw a lot of the ball and was a threat, but should have scored when he blazed over in the first half

6 Latte Lath: Struggled to get clear of the Albion defence, but came close with a second-half header

Subs:

Burgzorg (for Latte Lath, 76)

Jones (for Doak, 82)

McCormick (for McGree, 90)

(not used): Brynn (gk), Dijksteel, Hunt, Barlaser, Hamilton, Forss.

Man Of The Match: HAYDEN HACKNEY – Produced a superb finish for the winner, but even without his goal, he was right back to his energetic, creative best.
