CALLUM Rodriguez is a jockey in demand and he looks set to keep the momentum going at Redcar on Wednesday.

Rodriguez starred with a treble at the last Redcar meeting and, as well as being stable jockey to Middleham’s rising star Ed Bethell, he’s also being employed by more and more southern trainers.

He heads to Redcar’s midweek fixture with more eye-catching bookings, notably for Newmarket trainers Charlie Fellowes and David Simcock on Saytarr and Caledonian respectively.

Saytarr, a son of Mehmas, was four lengths clear of the third when a neck second to Hugo Palmer’s Herecomesthebear in a Ffos Las nursery last time and looks leniently treated in the Weatherbys Stallion Book Nursery.

Caledonian improved from his debut to finish second of ten in a Yarmouth maiden last month, and looks capable of landing his first win in the British EBF Supports Racing To School Future Stayers Novice Stakes.

However, Karl Burke introduces a fascinating newcomer in the form of 200,000 euro Galileo colt, Last Galileo, who holds a Group 1 entry in the Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster next month, and a market check will underline stable expectations.

One of the country’s leading riders, James Doyle, makes the long trip north, and the pick of his two booked rides for Roger Varian’s powerful Newmarket yard is My Cloud in the weatherbysshop.co.uk Novice Stakes.

He was odds-on for his debut at Newcastle back in February and showed plenty of promise despite being beaten a neck. The lengthy lay-off is a question mark but Doyle’s booking suggests the Blue Point colt is back on song.

Young William Pyle enjoyed a career highlight at the weekend when the prolific Alfa Kellenic landed the Ayr Silver Cup for North Yorkshire trainer Craig Lidster.

The combination team up with Force Of Honour in the opening heat on the eight-race card, the Start Your Racing TV Free Trial Now Nursery. The juvenile clearly relished the step up to a mile when a strong-finishing second at Newcastle last time and could go one better back on turf.

Liberty Coach, trained by John and Sean Quinn, is on a hat-trick after back-to-back wins at Doncaster, the latest by four lengths 10 days ago. He looks progressive and can complete the treble in the Weatherbys Digital Solutions Handicap (Division One) despite a six-pound penalty.

Division Two can go to Charlie Johnston’s True Wisdom, who looked a winner-in-waiting when a good second to hat-trick scorer See That Storm at the last Redcar meeting.

Connections of Maris Angel declared “there’s more to come” after the Harry Angel filly, trained in North Yorkshire by Mark Walford, defied a six-pound penalty to win at the last Redcar meeting.

She’s up another four pounds in the racingtv/freetrial Handicap as she aims for a treble in the hands of Jack Garritty. She may prove good enough, but better value may be found with Michael Dods’ Taygar.

The Churchill filly was finishing well after having no room when fifth to Maris Angel in that Redcar race and reopposes with a pull of four pounds.

Silvestre de Sousa is another high-profile jockey making the long trip to Redcar and he may be rewarded when he teams up with Lincolnshire trainer Michael Herrington to ride Kodebreaker in the concluding Watch Racing TV Free For 31 Days Handicap.

The gelding was well clear of the third when running Julie Camacho’s Captain Corelli to a neck under an apprentice at the last Redcar meeting. With the former champion jockey in the saddle, he can go one better.
