JOSH Coburn will stay with Millwall for treatment after the Middlesbrough striker was ruled out for up to two months with a calf injury this week.

Boro head coach Michael Carrick was frustrated for the young striker, who had enjoyed a perfect start to life with the Lions when he scored on an impressive debut in the win over Sheffield Wednesday before the international break.

But that delight turned to disappointment when Coburn was forced off against Luton last weekend, with Neil Harris since confirming the 21-year-old faces the relatively lengthy lay-off.

"He had a terrific start and hopefully he will get back on the pitch as quick as he can," said Boro boss Carrick.

"Certainly for him, and for us, it’s a bit of blow but the game throws up these type of things, ups and downs and little setbacks, but he’ll be alright and will deal with it.

"He’s got a good head on his shoulders and we’ll get him back on the pitch as quick as we can."

Boro will support Coburn through his spell on the sidelines but Carrick believes it's best the striker stays in the capital with his parent club during the coming weeks rather than returning to Teesside.

He said: “He’s staying down there.

"We are certainly here to support him from our side of things but I think that it is good for him to be there and immerse himself in it and hopefully he will be back pretty quick.”
