FINLEY Marsh has rebuilt his career admirably since serving a six-month ban for breaking betting rules and the young rider makes a rare visit to Redcar for a single ride on the hat-trick seeking Bright on Tuesday.

Marsh, stable jockey to Richard Hughes at Lambourn, served the ban from the end of 2020 after admitting to battling a gambling addiction, but has gone on to ride more than a half century of winners this season.

He makes the long trip north to partner Bright for Shropshire trainer David Loughnane in the feature Start Your RacingTV Free Trial Now Handicap.

The progressive Starspangledbanner gelding comes to Redcar on the back of wins at Doncaster and Newcastle – the latter with Marsh in the saddle – and he will be fancied to defy another three-pound penalty.

The eight-race card gets underway at 1.40pm with the Woodsmith Construction Group Apprentice Handicap, and course specialist Copper and Five looks a good opportunity for Mia Nicholls.

After he won over the course and distance in May, trainer Ruth Carr talked of the eight-year-old’s love for Redcar’s straight mile, and his mark is now a pound lower.

Although he was fourth to Captain Corelli at Thirsk last time, a return to his favoured Redcar could inspire a bolder show under Nicholls who will have high hopes of taking her score for the season into double figures.

Nicholls is the daughter of jockey-turned trainer Adrian Nicholls, and she’ll have high hopes of taking her score for the season into double figures.

Do It Now, trained at Malton by Adrian Keatley, was aimed at a listed race at York’s Ebor Festival last time, finishing ninth of 16. The Bungle Inthejungle colt now takes a big drop down to Class 5 for the racingtv.com/freetrial Restricted Novice Stakes under Connor Beasley, and should find the competition a lot less challenging.

The famous blue colours of Godolphin will be on display when Saeed bin Suroor’s Arabic Song goes to post in a first-time visor for the Watch RacingTV Free For 31 Days Novice Stakes.

The daughter of Blue Point showed improved form to be second of 12 to her better fancied stablemate, Dubai Treasure, at Wolverhampton last time, and Sean Kirrane keeps the ride.

Harry Charlton provides stiff competition in the form of American Bay who makes the long trip from Wiltshire, with Callum Rodriguez taking the ride. However, the New Bay gelding is still a maiden after eight runs and is more exposed that the Godolphin runner.

Apprentice Rhys Elliott is enjoying a breakthrough season, and he scored the first victory for his boss, Michael Dods, when Zuffolo won at Ayr in July. The gelding showed his liking for Redcar when winning over the course and distance in May 2023, and Elliott’s seven-pound claim could prove very handy in the Racing TV Club Day Handicap (Division 1).

County Durham trainer Dods may also be worth siding with in Division 2 when Paul Mulrennan is reunited with the talented but quirky Taygar.

Mulrennan, whose talents were seen to great effect when landing one of the gambles of the season on American Affair from a seemingly impossible position at Doncaster on Saturday, won on Taygar at Ayr two runs ago.

The combination has since been down the field in a Class 5 handicap at Beverley, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Churchill filly bounce back with a drop back in grade.

Middleham trainer Ed Bethell continues to impress among the younger generation of trainers, and he has See That Storm going for a hat-trick in the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap.

Callum Rodriguez, who was in the saddle when the colt won at Redcar in July and Pontefract a month later, is back for more with a 5lbs penalty to defy.

Punters could be toasting Marmalade Lady after the Try racingtv Free Now At racingtv.com/freetrial Handicap, with Hughie Morrison sending the filly all the way from Berkshire.

A winner at Chepstow in June, the Expert Eye filly has the able assistance of Jason Hart.
