Here's how Middlesbrough's players rated in the 1-1 draw with Preston at the Riverside:
6 Dieng: Didn’t have much to do. Helpless for goal.
7 Ayling: Solid defensively at right-back. Set Conway away for early opener.
7 Edmundson: Composed and confident debut.
7 Clarke: Typically solid and brave at the back. Went close to a third goal in as many games in the first half.
6 Borges: Got caught up field a couple of times in the first half. Set up goal for Latte Lath in second half but had strayed offside.
6 Barlaser: Effective in the first half. Sprayed the ball about and caused problems with set-piece delivery. Impact waned after the break.
7 Hackney: At the heart of Boro’s good work early on and twice went close. Couldn’t pick the decisive pass in the second half.
6 Jones: Couple of bright darts but didn’t have as much of an impact as he’d have liked. Replaced by Doak at midway point of second half.
7 Conway: Hugely encouraging full home debut. Electric in the first half an hour and deserved his goal. Frustrated in the second half as Preston sat deep.
6 Azaz: Involved in some good early work from Boro. Faded in the second half.
6 Latte Lath: Bright in the first half and linked up well with Conway. Had the ball in the net after the break but Borges was offside in build-up.

6 Doak (for Jones, 68): Couple of promising flashes of what he’s capable of. Missed late chance.
