EDDIE Howe hopes to sit down with Newcastle bosses and recruitment team and start the planning for the January transfer window as soon as possible.

After a frustrating summer window, Howe revealed in his press conference on Friday that there hasn't yet been any talks as to how the Magpies will approach January - but he hopes that will soon change.

And on the back of a turbulent summer, Howe called for togetherness behind the scenes at St James' Park.

"No discussions yet towards January and no further discussions on anything," he said.

"It's about unity and coming together now and making sure we come together. This time for me is about making sure we get results."

Asked when he'd expect the planning and discussions to start ahead of the January window, Howe said: "Pretty soon, I imagine. You have to be organised and thorough in your preparation to make sure you know what you want.

"And of course we need to be able to see what we can and can't do financially."

Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was on Tyneside to take in the victory over Tottenham before the international break and met with key club figures, including sporting director Paul Mitchell and head coach Howe, during the visit.

Mitchell said Al-Rumayyan remains as "ambitious and enthused as ever", while Howe said yesterday: "The chairman is always very engaging. He's a very positive guy so he always wants to try and help affect us in a good way.

"He's very keen to communicate so nothing but positives, helped by the result. Everyone was in a good mood so it was very positive."

After the frustrations of the summer window, with Newcastle eventually having to admit defeat in their pursuit of top target Marc Guehi, talk will soon turn to the January strategy.

Mitchell said in an interview during the international break that Newcastle need to be "more global in our vision of the players we sign".

But Howe said: "It's a mixture. It's never about the market - it's all about the player.

"We have historically always assessed the player first - he has to be attainable and has to be at the right price - but it's never about looking at one market and signing a player from this market only.

"It's about the positional need and trying to identify the right player regardless of where they play. I don't know if that will change in the future, but that's how we have done it."
