SCOTT Borthwick says Durham are in a "really good place" ahead of the County Championship fixture against Lancashire, which gets underway today.

Ryan Campbell has named a 15-player squad, which includes new signing Chemar Holder alongside the return of David Bedingham and Matthew Potts.

Holder is in line to make his Durham debut at Seat Unique Riverside after joining up with the squad for the final three County Championship fixtures.

Bedingham returns to contention, following an unbeaten 188 for South Africa A whilst Potts has been released by England after taking five wickets in two Tests against Sri Lanka.

Colin Ackermann returns to the red ball squad following his partner’s successful birth of twins.

Brydon Carse has joined up with England’s white ball squad, with their IT20 series against Australia beginning on Wednesday. Ashton Turner has returned home after Durham’s T20 quarter final against Surrey.

Paul Coughlin remains unavailable following an elbow injury sustained in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Following defeat to Somerset, Durham sit seventh in the County Championship, just four points behind fifth placed Worcestershire.

Borthwick said: "It was a tough week in Taunton but I’m sure there are some positives we can take from that. We are in a really good place, it’s a fresh week, we’re back home and hoping to finish the season strongly.

"Lancashire will be fighting hard, the league right now is really tight and no matter who you play you need to be on it. It doesn’t matter if you play a bottom or top side, if you have a bad session they will hurt you.

"Keaton Jennings is a big character and will be pushing that Lancashire side to be fighting. It will be a tough challenge but our boys are up for it."

Durham are looking to extend a 24-point gap to their opponents, who lie ninth in division one.
