KIERAN Scott says Middlesbrough and Emmanuel Latte Lath have swiftly put last week's dramatic deadline day behind them and the striker is ready to kick on when the Championship resumes next week.

Latte Lath's future was briefly plunged into doubt in the final hours of the summer window when Ipswich made a late move for the Ivorian.

The striker initially had his head turned by the prospect of a move to the Premier League but after a "really honest conversation" with club officials at Rockliffe on deadline day afternoon, the matter was quickly resolved and last season's top scorer "took it brilliantly", says Scott, Boro's head of football.

It was a dramatic end to what was a hugely successful window for Boro, who not only signed eight senior players - including several top targets - but also managed to keep hold of their star assets such as Rav van den Berg and Hayden Hackney, as well as Latte Lath.

"Deadline day is a challenging day and you don't know what's coming but you deal with it when he comes," said Scott in an interview with the club website.

"We had an approach from a Premier League club for one of our players and we dealt with it how we saw fit. We turned it away because it wasn't the right time and we want to keep Emmanuel here, we all know who I'm referring to.

"Emmanuel came in to speak to us and it was a really honest conversation with a boy who'd had an approach from a Premier League football club and he just wanted to talk it through.

"It coincided with the time that the boys were travelling (to Cardiff). There was nothing in that, there was no funny games going on, it was just the timing.

"Once we'd had a conversation, we explained where we were. The boy took it brilliantly, no issues and it was a marker of the boy that he wanted to get in the car and get straight down to Cardiff and join the team to go and win the game.

"No problem. All part of the deadline day experience and we move on."

Boro made it clear early in the summer that they had no intentions of losing their star players and Scott followed head coach Michael Carrick in praising Steve Gibson for his backing.

He said: "We really wanted to keep our main players. We were tested, believe me, on a few occasions. It shows the ambition of the club and it shows the ambition of Steve.

"He could have easily taken the money that was on offer, but he showed his ambition for the football club and how he continues to back it. We sit here with all of those players still here."
