Here's how Sunderland's players rated in the 3-1 win at Portsmouth:
6 Patterson: Quiet and comfortable throughout.
8 Hume: Full of running and ideas up and down the right flank. Had a hand in the opening goal.
8 O’Nien: Didn’t give Christian Saydee a sniff. The striker was replaced on the hour. Didn't deserve misfortune of last minute own-goal
7 Ballard: A comfortable and confident return to action. Didn’t put a foot wrong.
7 Cirkin: Another impressive display from the left-back. Solid defensively and got forward at every opportunity.
7 Bellingham: Disciplined in the deep midfield role. Tidied up and let Rigg and Browne join the attack.
8 Browne: All-action positive midfield display from the former Preston man. Le Bris has some difficult midfield decisions to make in the months ahead.
9 Rigg: Another immense display from Sunderland’s frightening young talent. Bossed the midfield and started move for third goal with a crunching challenge.
8 Roberts: Built on his impressive start to the season with another effective display. Asked questions of Portsmouth defence throughout and created crucial second goal.
7 Mundle: Didn’t see as much of the ball as he’d have liked in the first half but stuck at it and was rewarded with goal, a clinical finish.
9 Mayenda: Probably his best display in a Sunderland shirt. Bullied Portsmouth’s defence and deserved a goal.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Eliezer Mayenda. No senior striker arrival in the summer for Sunderland but Regis Le Bris won’t be overly concerned after this display from Eliezer Mayenda. He was excellent. Mayenda is justifying Le Bris' summer decision to make him the first choice frontman.
