MIDDLESBROUGH wrapped up their summer transfer window with the loan capture of George Edmundson from Ipswich Town.

The 27-year-old has joined on a temporary move for the entirety of the current campaign.

The experienced centre-half will strengthen a backline that has been stretched with Dael Fry, Darragh Lenihan and Rav van den Berg all currently out injured.

Edmundson emerged as a target earlier this week and after a couple of on-off twists over the course of the last 24 hours of the window, Boro confirmed the signing in the dying seconds ahead of the 11pm deadline.

A number of other Championship clubs, including Portsmouth and Watford, were linked with Edmundson after Ipswich made it known they were willing to sanction a loan for the centre-half.

He featured just 10 times last season and although he came off the bench for the final minute of last week's Premier League defeat to Manchester City, game-time would have been hard to come by this season.

Edmundson follows Ben Doak through the door at Boro in what turned out to be a successful end to a hugely impressive transfer window.

Emmanuel Latte Lath remains a Boro player with the club having rejected an approach from Ipswich Town. Despite uncertainty earlier on deadline day and Latte Lath not initially travelling with the squad with Wales, he's since linked up with his teammates and is available to play at Cardiff tomorrow. The striker is said to be "100% committed" to the Boro cause.

There was one permanent exit late on deadline day, with youngster AJ Bridge joining Norwich on a two-year deal.

He said: "I'm absolutely over the moon. It's a great club with good ambitions. I can't wait to get going.

"I like to play anywhere across the midfield and to get the ball off the two centre-backs and to create chances."
