MIDDLESBROUGH will confirm the signing of Ben Doak ahead of tonight's deadline after winning the battle for the in-demand Liverpool winger

As reported by the Northern Echo earlier this afternoon, Boro were confident they'd land Doak after making a move for the 18-year-old and outlining their plan for the talented winger.

Hull City were interested, while as many as five other clubs were also said to be keen, but Liverpool feel Doak's progression will be best served on Teesside. He'll spend the full season on loan at the Riverside. Premier League duo Southampton and Leicester were among those keen on Doak, who is now heading for Teesside to complete his medical.

The former Celtic youngster has played 10 times for Liverpool's first team

Liverpool's former boss Jurgen Klopp was a big fan of the Boro-bound youngster.

He said last year: "Ben Doak, obviously nice signs, he’s with us in training again. Special boy, really confident, has something nobody else delivers really, this kind of dribbling, this kind of straight-forward bravery, all these kind of things."

Meanwhile, Josh Coburn has completed his move to Millwall. The 21-year-old will spend the season on loan with the Lions.

Boro were in the market for a centre-half today as well and a loan move for George Edmundson was considered but it's understood that is now unlikely. Boro will continue to assess their options in the final hours of the window but could opt to go without signing a defender, with Rav van den Berg and Jonny Howson close to a return after injury.
