MIDDLESBROUGH are set to confirm the signing of Neto Borges from Clermont.

The left-back has completed his medical ahead of signing a permanent deal with Boro, becoming the Championship's sixth senior signing of the summer.

It's another transfer boost for Boro at the back of a successful summer window, with the capture of a left-back having been identified as a priority after Alex Bangura suffered a serious injury in pre-season.

Ryan Giles' situation at Hull City was monitored throughout the summer but Boro made their move for Borges when it became clear it would be possible to sign a player who they wanted last summer.

Twelve months ago, Boro weren't able to strike a deal with Clermont but after their relegation from Ligue 1 and with Borges having moved into the final year of his contract, talks resumed this summer and the clubs came to an agreement.

Boro believe the attacking full-back is an ideal fit for Michael Carrick's system and are also confident Borges, who has played in Brazil, Sweden and Belgium, will adapt well to Championship football.

The international break after this Saturday's game at Cardiff will give Borges the chance to get up to speed.
