NEWCASTLE United are edging closer to reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi but it could be one in, one out in defence with Kieran Trippier pushing for a move before the end of the window.

A string of clubs are keeping tabs on Trippier situation and while Eddie Howe wants to keep the right-back at St James' Park, the 33-year-old wants first team football.

It comes after Trippier was left out of the side for the opening weekend victory over Southampton.

Everton, who are dealing with an injury crisis and are without several key players including a number of right-back options, are said to be interested but and boss Sean Dyche, who previously managed Trippier at Burnley, admitted it's an area of the pitch he needs to strengthen.

"He's one of many names that have come up here," he said on Thursday.

"As if by magic when we haven't got a right-back!' (Jarrad) Branthwaite is still a bit away at the moment. Seamus is a bit closer, (James) Garner is a bit closer just coming back in training with the group. Tarky (James Tarkowski) has got a maybe situation - so we're going to have to look at that."

Atalanta and Galatasaray have also been linked while there's been talk of interest from Saudi this summer.

Trippier was an unused substitute against Southampton and then played 45 minutes for Newcastle's Under-21s against Sunderland on Monday night.

He's also lost the captain's armband this season, with Bruno Guimaraes named as Newcastle's new skipper.

While Trippier's future is uncertain as things stand, Newcastle are increasingly hopeful of landing top centre-half target Marc Guehi.

Talks between the clubs have continued this week with Palace making it known a package of £65m plus add-ons will likely be enough for Newcastle to get their man.

The England international is said to be keen on the move and while the Magpies have assessed other targets in recent days and made contact with clubs, Guehi has always been first choice, though the club record capture of the 24-year-old would likely mean Newcastle are unable to also sign a right winger.
