Young North East footballers are all kitted out for the new season thanks to a grant from a housing association.

Leven Whites' under-11s coach Matthew Ramp believes everyone having the same kit can bring a massive confidence boost and this was the reason he applied for funding to Broadacres Community Development Funding.

His application was approved, and the team are now in their training kit preparing for the coming season in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance (TJFA) league.

“It looks so much more like a team to have them all in the same training tops rather than a range of different club shirts,” said Matthew.

“Money is tight for a lot of people these days but thanks to this generous donation all children can have the same kit.”

The club provides football for youngsters of all abilities and Matthew believes participating in sport gives a good grounding in physical fitness and mental health well-being, with the new kit proving great motivation.

“When the kids run out in the same kit no matter what their ability, they all feel part of the same team,” said Matthew.

“It’s all part of the camaraderie of football and definitely spurs them on to work hard and get better as a team, rather than see themselves as a group of individuals.”
