MIDDLESBROUGH are looking to put the finishing touches to their impressive summer transfer window with the capture of a left-back ahead of next week's deadline.
After the arrival of striker Tommy Conway at the end of last week, Boro switched their attention to left-back, which became a priority after Alex Bangura suffered a serous injury in pre-season.
Ryan Giles' situation at Hull City has been monitored throughout the summer but Boro haven't been able to strike a deal with Hull City and as things stand the former loanee is on the backburner.
Boro are progressing with another deal after identifying alternate left-back targets, but one player who won't be moving to the Riverside this month is Liverpool defender Owen Beck.
He was linked with Michael Carrick's side as well as Leeds and Celtic but the 22-year-old is not on Boro's radar.

It's been a hugely successful summer window for Boro, who have signed five senior players as well as promising defender Harley Hunt, who was on the bench for last week's cup win at Leeds United and Saturday's Championship defeat to Derby County.
Carrick and the club's recruitment team are delighted with the work done this summer and the make-up of the Boro squad, with left-back the remaining priority ahead of next Friday's deadline.
With Bangura absent, Lukas Engel is Boro's only senior left-back option, though George McCormick has enjoyed a breakthrough in pre-season and has been in the matchday squad for the first three games.
As things stand, Giles looks set to stay at Hull beyond the deadline, though obviously circumstances can very quickly change at this stage of a window.
The Tigers were contractually obligated to make Giles' loan deal permanent this summer but the 24-year-old was keen on a return to Boro, where he impressed in the 2022/23 season.
Earlier this month, Hull vice-chairman Tan Kesler said: "For us, Ryan should be taking the responsibility of this beautiful club.
"We've invested a lot for him. He should be respectful of that and understand there is something special to be done here. He should be contributing to it.
"I know it's the transfer window and a lot of players can get distracted but we believe in Ryan, that's why we brought him here. He should believe in the project and start delivering like he did at Middlesbrough as well."
