REGIS Le Bris has revealed his role in Sunderland's transfer discussions - with the head coach vocal about his thoughts on potential targets as the Black Cats continue their efforts to bolster their forward line.

Sunderland host Sheffield Wednesday today looking to build on their opening day win at Cardiff City, but off the pitch pressure is building on the hierarchy and recruitment team with less than a fortnight remaining of the summer transfer window.

The Black Cats are still in the market for at least one striker, with Le Bris providing a glimmer of hope on Friday when he said he hoped there would be a breakthrough "in the next few days".

Le Bris then discussed his role in the transfer process as the head coach negotiates his first window as Sunderland head coach.

"The duration of a day for a head coach is long," he said.

"It was late yesterday (Thursday). It's not all day (talking transfers) but when the process is finished, when the recruitment team look at the availability of the players, and are they good for our team and then at the end of the process, I'll analyse three, four or five games and explain my idea about the players.

"Then we cross our ideas and at the end we decide if we will be able to sign him or not."

Asked what he would class as a successful last fortnight of the window, Le Bris said: "It's unpredictable so we are ready for many options."

Sunderland remain in talks with Caen as the clubs look to come to an agreement over Alexandre Mendy, with the French second tier club's boss Nicolas Seube telling of his frustrations ahead of their opening game against Paris FC yesterday.

He said: "He is in individual training with the athletic trainers. The situation is delicate and difficult to sort out.

“Of course, as coach, I’d like him to be able to join the squad so that we have an extra attacking weapon. I hope that between now and the end of the summer transfer window, we will find the best formula.

“I’ve given my opinion on this subject and it’s not up to me. I will keep the discussions we’ve had together to myself. It’s an unpleasant situation for everyone, the player, the club, the new shareholders and me as coach.

"For the moment, everyone is losing out in this story. The idea is for us to find a win-win situation.”
