MIDDLESBROUGH will host Stoke City in the second round of the Carabao Cup, while Newcastle United have been handed a tricky trip to Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.
Boro’s reward for this evening’s 3-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road is a rare home tie in recent seasons.
The Teessiders will host fellow Championship side Stoke in the week beginning August 26, having reached the semi-finals of the League Cup last season.
Stoke booked their place in the second round last night when they claimed a 2-0 victory at League Two Carlisle United.
Newcastle look to have a more difficult challenge as they have been handed an away game at Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.
The Magpies enter the League Cup at the second-round stage and will line up against a Forest side that could feature Elliot Anderson, who moved to the City Ground from Tyneside earlier this summer.
